The Kundhalinisnake in Hindu symbolism pictures an evolution that unfolds from nothing on its way towards perfection. The zero point in this symbol is comparable with the absolute zero (zero degrees Kelvin) in western science and is also seen in the OM-symbol as the nothing where the potential is everything. Even in life itself, the DNA-spiral unfolds itself along the winding path of the helix like a plant twining around emptiness. Picturing the synergy as the winded matter would not be a helix without the emptiness it winds around. The spiral symbolizes conflicting energies which together form a whole. In Scandinavia, winding and spiral symbols are represented in Viking-age dragon ornaments. The symbol of medicine, the staff of Aesculapius, is a relic from the ancient Greece. |
